U.S. Upgrades Travel Advisory for Four Arab Countries
The updated advisory places those countries alongside Bahrain, Kuwait, Israel, and Qatar, all of which carry the same elevated risk designation. Egypt was left at Level 2, with the State Department advising visitors to "exercise increased caution."
In a separate but related development, the US Embassy in Bahrain announced a full suspension of routine operations.
"suspended all routine consular services until further notice," the mission said, while urging American citizens currently in Bahrain to depart immediately "if safe to do so."
The sweeping advisories reflect a rapidly deteriorating security environment across the Gulf, driven by the ongoing US-Israeli military campaign against Iran that was launched Saturday. The offensive has killed nearly 800 people to date, among them Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and senior military commanders.
Tehran has retaliated forcefully with waves of drone and missile strikes aimed at both Israel and Gulf states hosting US military assets — disrupting key energy supply routes in the process and sending shockwaves through an already volatile regional landscape.
